Holy Week Service and Events
Easter Worship, April 16 at 10:00 a.m.
First Presbyterian Church plans a triumphant celebration of the resurrection, celebrating with a mix of traditional and contemporary special music, featuring trumpet, guitar and timpani. This day of rejoicing follows the darkness of Maundy Thursday and the sorrow of Good Friday. Come and bear witness to God's enduring promise of eternal life.
Palm Sunday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m.
Palm Sunday will feature the congregational singing of "The Palms" as we celebrate the anniversary of Christ's entry into Jerusalem with the distribution of palm fronds and a procession by the children of the church.
Maundy Thursday Service, April 13 at 7:30 p.m.
The Maundy Thursday service is a Tenebrae service in the Sanctuary. The word tenebrae is Latin for “shadows.” You will experience the darkness of Jesus’ days before his resurrection; the betrayal, abandonment, and agony that he endured for us. The service, which includes Communion, is left unfinished, because the story isn’t over until Easter Day. A simple soup and bread meal prior to this service will be hosted by our Youth Group. Plan to enjoy the fellowship and homemade soup at 6:00 p.m.
Good Friday Prayer Breakfast, April 14 at 8:30 a.m.
Share a French toast breakfast and reflect upon the crucifixion with members of our congregation, our friends from the Bridgeport Rescue Mission and the Re-Entry Ministry. Beautiful, contemplative music will be offered by Kristin Lattin Butler and her students. Volunteer opportunities to help prepare and serve the meal are available. Sign up during coffee hour to help or to attend. All are welcome!
The Chapel will be open for prayer and meditation after the breakfast.
